Tony Lingham is an experienced leader, researcher, consultant, and collaborator. As an expert in adult learning and development, he has worked extensively with individuals and teams across multiple levels of diverse organizations globally.  He is a thought leader and is spearheading the globe with a structured process for team coaching involving the assessment of actual and desired states of team interaction based on the experience of teamwork; and how these profiles relate to the innovative and execution capacities of a team.  His work is evidenced-based and encompasses both qualitative and quantitative data. Tony Lingham has been a Professor in the Department of Organizational Behavior, Weatherhead School of Management (WSOM), Case Western Reserve University. His teaching and research interests are leadership assessment and development, Experiential Learning Theory, Learning Needs Theory of Motivation, learning flexibility, research methods, executive coaching, team coaching, and team learning and development.  Tony Lingham is spearheading the globe with a structured process for team coaching involving the assessment of actual and desired states of a team based on the experience of teamwork, and these profiles relate to the innovative and execution capacities of a team. His work has been tested and validated over 20 years with teams ranging from Boards to functional teams and across countries (US, Latin America, China, and Europe). He uses his Team Learning Inventory (TLI) for team coaching and development and his Learning Needs Inventory (LNI) for individual coaching, learning, and development. He has published over 40 articles and presented his work at US and international conferences. Tony also was the Professor of Organizational Behavior and Leadership in Antioch University’s Ph.D. in Leadership and Change Program, Visiting Professor at ESADE Business School In Barcelona, Spain from 2006-2008 where he was also Assistant Professor from 2004-2006.

He has also been a keynote speaker on teamwork in the SLADE conference in Buenos Aires; a panelist for a global seminar involving senior HR managers from 70 different countries; and an invited speaker on the significance of learning in leadership development in Belgium. He was also invited to be the moderator for a session on Leadership Development for Developing Leaders organized by the American College of Healthcare Executives of Northern Ohio (ACHENO) in April 2014 where he presented measuring and developing inter-professional teams.  Tony is also a Senior Executive Coach and a Master Coach certified in Emotional Intelligence with the Hay Group and the founder of Interaction Science, LLC.

While at Case Western Reserve University, he received the Doctoral Teaching and Mentoring Award in 2013 and has been nominated for teaching excellence in 2002, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, 2012 and 2013.  Tony has taught courses in MBA, EMBA, executive and senior executive, and both PhD and Executive doctorate programs.

As an engaged scholar, he has been an organization, team and leadership consultant for over 15 years working with managers and leaders in multinational companies across the US, Europe, Africa and Asia both in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors.  His work spans strategic planning and Appreciative Inquiry at the organizational level; team and individual assessment, learning and development, developing High Impact Teams, and using the innovation and execution processes in team coaching and organizational development. His clients include TUI Tourism (Global Office), Jesuit Refugee Services (international, regional, and country directors), Bunge (Europe), Arcelor, Barnes Group Inc (US, Canada, Europe, and Asia), Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Schools That Can, NASA (Houston); Penteo (for their European Conference for CIOs at INSEAD, France), Danone, Benteler, The New York Music Festival Team, the Wilson Planning Cooperative, and Cooperationworks!.  Tony has also taught sessions on Developing Highly Successful and Functioning Teams at the Weatherhead Executive Education Center for organizations including PolyOne, ABB, American Greetings, Applied Industrial Technologies, Foseco, Military Aerospace, Karmanos Cancer Center, and PNC.


Prior to his academic life, Tony was the Principal Staff Officer (Logistics) in the Singapore Military with 14 secondary appointments, managing 250 personnel and a $multimillion budget, and has won several awards for high performance.  Certified in Advanced Facilitation in QCC, he was appointed as Chief Facilitator and Coach for quality control circles and won a bronze award in an Asian QCC Competition. He has also functioned as an engineer and musician for an artist cooperative in Singapore producing 60 road shows and several theater productions. Apart from his engineering background, he is also a classical concert guitarist and composer. Tony also speaks several Asian languages including Mandarin and Malay.
